Privacy notice
What happens to your information when you use this site, said plainly. The short version: if you send an enquiry it comes to me so I can reply, it is kept for a year unless we start working together, and you can have it deleted by asking.
Who I am, and how to reach me
Fine Kilter is the trading name of Stuart Cadger, a sole trader working in the UK. I decide what happens to the information described on this page, which under UK data protection law makes me the data controller for it. There is no marketing team, no database of prospects being worked, and nobody acting on my behalf beyond the specific tools named below.
Anything on this page, including a request to delete what I hold about you: finekilter@gmail.com. It comes to me and I answer it myself.
If you send an enquiry
The form asks for your name and email address, and lets you add your company and whatever you want to tell me. It also records which page you sent it from, and gives your message a reference so it can be traced if something goes wrong.
I use that for one thing: reading your enquiry and replying to it. No mailing list, no automated follow-up sequence, nothing sold or shared for marketing. The lawful basis is legitimate interests, which in plain terms means replying to someone who asked me to reply. If an enquiry turns into work, the same information then supports the steps towards a contract.
Where it goes
- Cloudflare hosts this site and runs the check that stops the form being abused by bots. That check sees your IP address.
- Before your message is sent, the site checks that the domain of your email address can receive mail at all, using Cloudflare's public DNS service. Only the part after the @ is used for that.
- Make carries the message from the form to where it is stored.
- Airtable holds the enquiry as a record, so I can keep track of what I have and have not answered.
- Google delivers the notification to my email inbox.
That is the whole route. There is no team here for it to be circulated around, and it goes to nobody else.
How long it is kept
An enquiry that does not lead to work is deleted after twelve months, from the record and from my inbox. If we do work together, I keep what the engagement needs for as long as it runs, and then for six years afterwards, which is what tax and legal record-keeping requires.
One request in return: please do not put passwords, bank details or anything genuinely sensitive in the message box. It is an enquiry form, not a secure channel.
Just visiting
You can read every page here without giving me anything. Cloudflare, which serves the site, keeps its own short-term logs for security and traffic purposes, including visitor IP addresses, as any web host does.
Analytics
This site uses GoatCounter, a privacy-first analytics tool. It sets no cookies, does not build a profile of you across visits, and cannot identify you individually. It only counts things in aggregate, such as which pages get read and roughly where visitors came from. Nothing you type anywhere is sent to it. The lawful basis is legitimate interests, in knowing whether the site is any use, and the control below turns it off.
GoatCounter does not automatically honour the browser's "Do Not Track" setting, so this site builds a real opt-out of its own: your choice below is stored only in this browser and always respected. If you have not chosen and your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, analytics stay off by default.
Cookies, and what is stored in your browser
This site sets no cookies of its own, which is why there is no banner asking you to accept any. Two small things are stored in your own browser, and neither identifies you: the analytics choice above, so it can be honoured next time you visit, and, if you use the enquiry form, a short-lived token from the bot check recording that you have already passed it.
Where your information is held
The providers named above are used under their standard business terms. Some of them are based outside the UK, or store information outside it. Where that happens, the transfer relies on the safeguards UK data protection law requires, which those providers' terms provide for.
This site links out to LinkedIn. Follow that link and you are on LinkedIn's site, where their privacy terms apply rather than mine.
Your rights
You can ask me to:
- give you a copy of what I hold about you
- correct anything that is wrong
- delete it
- stop using it, or limit what I do with it
- send it to you in a portable form
Email finekilter@gmail.com and ask. There is no charge, you will have a reply within a month, and deleting an enquiry takes me about two minutes. I will not ask you to justify it.
If you are unhappy with how I have handled something, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. I would rather you raised it with me first, but that route is yours either way.
Changes to this notice
If what this site does with your information changes, this page changes with it, and so does the date below.
